Another reason for being aware of exchange rates is for purchasing over seas stocks. When you purchase stock in another country, but are based in your own country, as in online trading for instance, your dollar value is probably going to be different than what it is in the country where you are investing. You will want to be informed of the exact exchange rates so that you know precisely how much you are paying for that stock. It may seem like a good price, until you convert your dollars. You may end up paying much more than the stock is actually worth, defeating the whole purpose of investing.
